Course Overview
Anatomy and Physiology 1a provides students with a foundation in human biology by exploring the connection between anatomy (structure) and physiology (function). This introductory course is ideal for students considering a future in the health sciences as well as those interested in understanding the human body.
Key Learning Focus
Students will:
- Study the relationship between anatomy and physiology as a basis for health and wellness.
- Explore cell structure, cellular processes, and tissue organization.
- Examine the structure and function of the skeletal, muscular, nervous, and cardiovascular systems.
- Identify common diseases and disorders that impact these systems.
- Build scientific literacy through terminology, diagrams, and case studies.
Instructional Approach
The course integrates interactive lessons, visual models, and applied activities that help students connect theory to real-life health contexts. Case studies and disease analysis foster critical thinking and application of scientific knowledge.
Outcome
By the end of Anatomy and Physiology 1a, students will:
- Demonstrate an understanding of core body systems and their functions.
- Apply biological concepts to analyze health and disease.
- Use scientific reasoning to explain how cells, tissues, and organs interact.
- Be prepared to continue with Anatomy and Physiology 1b, advancing into additional body systems and deeper health science applications.
